Eating garlic can help maintain heart health. Based on the results of research in the UK, red blood cells exposed to the garlic juice can produce hydrogen sulfide.
The key is allicin, which is broken down into sulfate compounds that pollute very smelly breath. These compounds react with red blood cells and produce hydrogen sulphide which relaxes the blood vessels and keeps blood flowing easily.
Even so, UK experts warned taking garlic supplements could lead to side effects. Hydrogen sulphide generates a smell of rotten eggs and is used to produce bombs smell (Stink bomb).
If at low concentrations it plays a vital role in helping cells communicate with each other sesamanya.Sementara on blood vessels, a compound that stimulates the cells that form a layer loosens and causes the vessels to widen.
Further experiments showed that chemical reactions take place mainly on the surface of red blood cells.
The researchers suggest that hydrogen sulphide production in red blood cells may be used to standardize dietary garlic supplements.
Researcher Dr David Kraus said the garlic in the food was very good. "Certainly in areas where garlic consumption is high, such as the Mediterranean and the Far East, a low level of occurrence of cardiovascular disease," he added.
"This interesting study suggests that garlic may be beneficial for heart health," said Judy O'Sullivan, cardiac nurse at the British Heart Foundation (BHF).
